Every day___ every day she’s still here is a gift. Some days she sleeps. Some days she chats and laughs. Why she lingers here with no meds, no blood transfusions disputes science so we simply stopped asking questions and take each day as a gift and enjoy her smiles, her whispery words, her sudden bursts of energy. We read to her, make her fav foods of which eats a couple bites. It makes me wonder about those dying that don’t have family surrounding them, a community of care workers. Dying at home has been a beautiful yet long process. Every day we wonder if this is the day. We check for the signs, the changes in breathing, skin, mind…every day we wonder and every day we have an extra is truly a beautiful gift. Every day feels poetic, they float into each other feeling nonreal, light and loving. . My mother is ‘Dying at home’ during this pandemic - it is a good process for her and the family. She is off all meds, somedays just laying there barely speaking. Earlier this week she wanted to go into the living room so we took her there, she looked all around then felt very tired. She slept for two days then woke with energy and left me a voice message ‘ok I can talk again woohoo’. We take advantage of these alert moments, talk about what she will wear for her last outfit, what her casket will look like - a white pine box which I will cover with new white lilac buds and little leaved light green tree branches from across the street. Today was a good day, a Saturday which was always our bath day as children. She had a sponge bath and I washed her hair with one of those magical shower caps. Then we thought we would try a sample hair do for her big day so I experimented with pin curls which she had never tried before. She chatted on of how her big sister used to set her hair in pincurls when she was little but had never tried it herself. It was nice to comb her hair, section off the pieces and twirl her hair through my fingers. I showed her this vid and she laughed her big laugh and said it looked like little rosebuds all over her head. Was nice to see her big smile. Now we are letting the pin curls dry and I hope she’s still here when it’s time to style the do. It’s day to day, hour to hour of never knowing. #dyingduringcovid #dyingathome

I was at Peter Beard’s home and each room, each corner and crevice was a collage. Incredibly stunning and magical. I was so very saddened to hear of his passing. Photos are in my story. . One my first visit, he sat so elegantly, so distinguished. I think he was around 70 and still very handsome. He was cutting collages with a huge pair of scissors, pictures were laid out over his entire floor. My eyes wandered everywhere as he talked. Every inch of his home had a piece of something magical, newspaper clippings, famous artworks, rocks, bones, flowers, it was fascinating and beautiful. He took us outside and walked us to the cliff that overlooked the ocean. He gazed out with so much wonderment, really looking at every little thing. It felt peaceful. I felt in the presence of someone great. It was an honour. My warmest condolences to his family. #peterbeard
